FATHER TONY MacDONALD RIP: More than 300 mourners gathered in South Queensferry, 3 August, to pray for the repose of the soul of the former parish priest, Father Tony MacDonald, who died 18 July following a prolonged battle with Motor Neurone Disease. “I think that much of what we witnessed in Father MacDonald was the simple, ancient, Hebridean Catholic faith of the man and of his mother and father,” observed Archbishop Leo Cushley during the Requiem Mass homily. PRAYERS FOR ITALY: Archbishop Leo Cushley pledged his prayers, sympathy and support to the earthquake-stricken people of Italy during this year’s Edinburgh Festival Mass in the presence of the Italian Consul General, Carlo Perrotta. “Carlo, you know that you and your people have many friends in Edinburgh and in the wider community in Scotland: be assured of our closeness to you and of our support and our prayers for our dear friends in Italy in the days to come,” said the Archbishop at St Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral in Edinbugh, Sunday 28 August.
